LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Give credit where credit is due

To the people of Longville, As most of you know the city recently received an emergency services early warning siren in our community. The siren is located near the boat landing and should be a great asset in securing the safety of our citizens.

'Transplants' take of ISD #118 woes

By way of introduction I want to make it clear that we're "transplants" who retired to the Longville/Remer area. As such we've observed the apparently heart felt rivalry between the "locals" from both towns for the past 11 years which has now degenerated into something which could, in the words …

Paranoid style vs. foolish style

Recently I read an article by Simon Maloy of Media Matters titled: "Glenn Beck and the Paranoid Style". Maloy writes for Media Matters for the purpose of ridiculing conservative principles in order to protect socialist Maxis thought and their control of our federal government.

Operating an ATV in the City of Longville

Local law enforcement authorities have been receiving numerous questions regarding the legality of ATV operation within the City of Longville. I would like to direct you to Chapter 84 of the Minnesota State Statutes pertaining to ATV regulations.

Another view on Northland Community Schools

Many individuals have asked my opinion on the current issues and factors impacting Northland Schools. I have for the most part held my emotions in check because I live in Cohasset and my children attend the Grand Rapids schools, so, I have no vote in ISD 118 issues.

You owe it to yourselves to be involved

The decisions being made by our School Board will affect you, your children and your taxes for years to come.

So long, it's been good to know you

A new school year shouldn't start without an expression of gratitude for the years of exceptional service that Mrs. Jill McKinney provided to the students of Longville and Remer elementary schools.

To the Editor

You must have really admired my musky box, I don't blame you. It was a fine musky box that I made about 25 years ago with some students when I was teaching.

To the Editor,

On Aug. 30, 2010, with the excellent help of Jeni and Marco at Patrick's Fine Dining, the Longville Ladies Bridge Club, along with the Friends of the Library, here in Longville did it again. We hosted an event that has been beingheld every August for 20 years

Get ready for a higher tax bill

The Bush tax cuts are about to expire. What I have heard is that the expiring tax cuts will only affect the rich! Some of the goodies that will expire will hurt us all.

Healthy Lakes Forum

Some friends and I recently attended the Healthy Lakes Forum held on Sep. 24th at the Northern Lights Event Center. Five local DFL state legislators were there to discuss issues concerning our lakes and environment.

Oct. 3 - 9 is Fire Prevention Week

Last year in Minnesota, 35 people lost their lives in fires. Most of the fires were residential, and all of them were preventable.

Tax cuts for the wealthy do not make sense

There are some politicians who want to give tax cuts to the wealthy. I do not think it makes sense. News reports recently state that corporations and large businesses are sitting on billions of cash.

Steer clear of proposed mandates and regulations of electrical power

I was privileged to participate in a recent tour of the Basin Electric Power facilities northwest of Bismarck, N.D., sponsored by Crow Wing Power, Brainerd. The trip was extremely pleasant and well-organized. Crow Wing Power deserves to be commended for their effort.

Time to come together

Thanks to the Press Citizen for the article last week about the Healthy Lakes Forum held in Walker recently. It was the fourth such event that has been held on this topic. The same edition also had a local letter writer expressing concern that only partisans of a certain political …
