Water Safety Class kudos

Our son and two of his friends recently took part in the boat safety course in Hackensack (July 7, 2011). What a great experience! All three now have a healthy respect for safety -- things like wearing a life vest and being aware of weather conditions out on the lake

Response to Zimmer

I'm a bit tardy responding to Mr. Zimmer's letter in the July 5th issue attacking me and the Republican Party. I've been busy promoting the GOP in Cass County with two county fairs and three parades in less than two weeks.

The American dream

In 1934 I attended the State School for the Blind, at Faribault. That was in the Great Depression and the blind kids had almost no hopes of getting a job when they finished school. Going to a street corner with a tin cup and a musical instrument or selling pencils …

Longville playground moving committee being formed

The Longville communitiy has until August 10th to get the playground moved from it's present location (next to the Longville School). Welk Excavating has agreed to lend the use of equipment to help with the transfer, but volunteer labor is needed to make it happen.

Response to Schultz's letter

I am neither Republican or Democrat. I always vote ......... for the one I think will be the lesser of two evils. But I would like to respond to the Republican Chair's assessment of Mr. Zimmer. It is nice that you have been going to fairs and parades and mingling …

Lets Move It!

An organizational meeting was held Thursday, Aug. 4, to build a group of volunteers to remove the playground behind Longville Elementary School. No surprise, many folks came out to support this effort. Sunday, August 14th has been chosen to begin the movement of the equipment to the site being donated …

Fully agrees with Pawlak

In response to Julie Pawlak's letter, I fully agree to everything she stated. I couldn't have added anything to her remarks. I couldn't express myself as well as she did.

Who really has our best interest at heart?

Dear me, my mind is in such a tizzy. Am I too dumb and misinformed that the liberal media has warped my brain into thinking the Democrats have the best interest of the country at heart? Or am I smart enough to question what I hear and read and think …

Lessons Learned from a State Shutdown

Three weeks after Minnesota's state government shutdown, I am hopeful that some semblance of normalcy has returned to those lives negatively impacted by this ordeal. While the political blame game may continue, I am focused on learning from this shutdown in order to prevent this from happening in the future.

Lets go for a more balanced solution

I want to voice my disappointment with the budget cuts that were part of the deal to lift the debt ceiling. I agree that we need to do something about our nation's debt. However I believe that increased revenue needs to be part of a balanced solution. The cuts unfairly …

Recycling - making an effort

I have been recycling since the 70's and I do it with a feeling of stewardship and personal responsibility. I believe we are each responsible for reducing our impact on the environment. There is a sense of doing the right thing and looking at the "whole picture" which includes our …

Compromising (A History Lesson)

Fairness is a multi-facetted virtue not a political football; it is a personal decision of conscience. To compromise with one's own principles of virtue is to take what is a personal character trait, a personal responsibility and put it to a vote. As an adult of faith, I could never …
