Robert Wendell Lewis

d. March 10, 2025

Robert Wendell Lewis, 84, a man known for his infectious laugh, humor, and unwavering work ethic, passed away March 10, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. He was at home surrounded by his loving family.

Bob grew up in the Remer area and at the age of 18 he joined the US Marine Corp. He was honorably discharged in 1963 at which point he returned to Remer where he did some logging and road construction.  On December 5, 1964, he married Neva Jones, soon after that they moved to the Cities where he worked for Knutson Construction as a carpenter. They had their first child Vickie on September 12, 1965, and their second child Tim on August 26, 1967. After living in the Cities for several years they decided that Remer was going to be a better place to raise a family, so they moved back in 1973. He worked for Tobiason’s sawmill for a couple of years before going to work for Longville Builders Supply. He started building their new house in 1977…. they moved in around 1979. Bob retired in 2012 from Longville Ready Mix.  His work ethic shined through every step of the way.

During his marriage with Neva, they enjoyed fishing, trips to Canada with family and friends, getting together with friends to play games, and raising their two children. After 32 years of marriage, Neva lost the battle with cancer in March 1996.

Bob was an amazing man who loved to help others.  He was always up for a game of cribbage and shared many hilarious stories of his past antics. He loved spending time in the woods looking for trees to run through the sawmill or for firewood. He also spent countless hours on the tractor and the 4-wheeler.

He was very proud and loved his children Tim Lewis (Laura Degree) and Vickie Hartley and his nephew Scott Brierley (Julie).

His partner, Terri Winger, was a vital part of his life and they enjoyed working together around the house and in the large gardens.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian C Zumbrunen; 4 siblings; and his wife, Neva Lewis.  Survivors include his children, Tim and Vickie; partner, Terri Winger; brother, Dean Zumbrunen; and four grandchildren, Becca (Seth) Welham, Kelsey (Dan Cruikshank) Lewis, David Hartley, and Breana Hartley.

A celebration of life will be held at his home. Date for this will be determined at a later time.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Arrangements are with Rowe Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Grand Rapids, MN. To sign the online guestbook or send condolences visit www.rowefuneralhomeandcrematory.com.
