Turnovers cost Storm in Blackduck loss
After two weeks off for Christmas break, the Storm girls basketball team traveled to Blackduck Jan. 6 and walked away with a 42-52 loss. Although the Ducks were a well matched team, what hurt the Storm was having 32 turnovers and sending the Ducks to the free throw line 15 times. Another contributing factor for the Storm was the inability to sink their three point shots.
Bella Dunham, Charity Berg and Nora Wake all ended the night with seven points on the board, while Abby Zapzalka contributed six. Other scorers for the evening were Liz Johnson with four, Ashlyn Schwarz also with four, Jasmine Kingsley with three and Maddie Barnes with two.
Top rebounder for the night was Barnes with seven, Barnes also ended the evening with one steal. Dunham, Zapzalka, Berg and Johnson all came down with four rebounds, with Berg and Wake having seven steals, two assists and three steals and two assists respectively. Zapzalka contributed with two steals and Johnson had one assist.
The Storm hosted the Aitkin Gobblers Friday, Jan. 10, then traveled to Ely for a Saturday double header, results will be in next weeks Press-Citizen. The girls will then play three home games, the first being in Hill City against Chisholm on Monday, Jan. 13. On Thursday, Jan 16 they will host Fond du Lac Ojibwe and on Friday, Jan. 17 they will be back in Hill City hosting Littlefork-Big Falls. Monday, Jan. 20 will see the girls travel to McGregor to take on the Mercs.
