Taize Prayer Service at UCC
All are invited on January 22nd at 6:00 p.m. to Union Congregational Church (UCC) for an ecumenical prayer service called Taize Prayer. Taize is a form of Christian prayer originating from Taize, France. The goal is to rest in God through the repetitive singing of psalm verses, alternating with periods of silent reflection. Taize prayer is considered a contemplative type of prayer, and includes the following elements:
• Music: The hallmark of Taize Prayer is a simple refrain, sung over and over. The goal is for the music to help one approach interior silence and stillness. When the distractions of the world or musings in our heads pulls us away, the music can gently return us to our prayer;
• Scripture Reading: Proclaimed, without preaching;
• Silence: Silence is incorporated at various times throughout the service;
• Spoken Prayer: The Lord’s Prayer and other spoken prayers are often incorporated in a Taize prayer service;
• Simple ritual actions: The lighting of candles is typically included in Taize prayer.
All are welcome to participate in this contemplative service. UCC is located at 401 Lake Ave. E, Hackensack, MN 56452.
