The first Northland School Board meeting of the year was held on Monday, January 6 at 5:30 p.m. and began with the nominations for officers. A motion was made to re-elect Marc Ruyak as the Board Chair, Bill Wake, Vice Chair; Linda Knox, Clerk and Tyler Seifert, Treasurer and keep all committee assignments for board members the same as last year and are posted on the district website, www.isd118.k12.mn.us.
The next item on the agenda was to set the regular meeting dates and times. Ruyak questioned new board member Jason Perkins which nights he had other commitments. After reviewing his schedule it was decided the board move their monthly regular meetings to the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. with the exception of January’s meeting which will be held the fourth Wednesday.
The board also scheduled four work sessions for the year, which will be held on the fourth Wednesday of February, April, July and October at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will be held at Northland High School.
Board expense reimbursements were approved with everything remaining the same and the mileage rates to coincide with federal rates. Also, the board designated the Pine Cone Press-Citizen as the district’s official newspaper and First National Bank of Walker as the official depository.
The board approved Ruyak, Knox and Seifert as signers for the district checking account, along with approving Pemberton, Sorlie, Rufer and Kerschner, PLLP as school attorney. The board then approved the purchase of a 77-passenger International bus for Fall 2026 delivery in the amount of $125,200.
The board’s next regular meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Northland High School in Remer.
