   Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that on Thursday February 13th 2025 at 11:26 PM the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received 911 calls reporting that a party had been shot and was at a residence in Powers Township, rural Backus, MN. 

   Deputies and responders arrived and learned that an adult male, age 34, of Pine River MN had been shot at a nearby residence while exiting a passenger vehicle. Emergency aid was immediately rendered to the victim and he was flown to a Fargo ND hospital with extent of injuries unknown at this time. 

   Several witnesses to the incident were identified and interviewed and a suspect was quickly identified. A subsequent traffic stop on a vehicle was initiated and an adult male, age 47, of Hackensack MN was arrested.

   The initial investigation indicates that the victim and suspect are known to each other and there is no threat of public safety in relation to this incident. The investigation continues. 

   Assisting with the scene and investigation was the Minnesota State Patrol, Backus Fire and First Responders, North Memorial Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.
