Faith in Action celebrates Volunteer Month
Governor Walz proclaimed that April 2025 as Volunteer Month. This proclamation emphasizes how volunteerism transforms both individuals and the communities they choose to engage in and serve.
As the state of Minnesota celebrates Volunteer Month, communities across the region are taking the time to recognize the individuals who dedicate their time and energy to making a difference. In Cass County, one organization stands out for its long-standing commitment to serving neighbors in need—Faith in Action for Cass County.
Faith in Action, a nonprofit based in Hackensack, has been a beacon of compassion and community support for almost 25 years. The organization matches volunteers with residents who need a helping hand, providing essential services like transportation to medical appointments, grocery delivery, light housekeeping, home repairs and ramps, and friendly visits to seniors and individuals living with chronic conditions or disabilities. Volunteer support is available to people of all ages and income levels.
During Volunteer Month, Faith in Action is shining a spotlight on its dedicated corps of volunteers who go above and beyond to serve others.
“Each one of our volunteers brings a special light into the lives of those they help,” said Theresa Eclov, Executive Director of Faith in Action for Cass County. “They are the heart of what we do. Whether it’s driving someone to a doctor’s appointment or simply providing a listening ear, they help people remain independent and connected.”
In 2024 alone, Faith in Action volunteers logged over 8000 hours and 141,000 miles, helping 365 individuals across the region. Many volunteers express that the experience is as rewarding for them as it is for those they assist.
“I started volunteering after I retired, thinking I’d help out a little here and there,” said longtime volunteer John from Walker. “But what I found was a sense of purpose and community that’s really special. You make real connections with people.”
Throughout April, Faith in Action invites you to view stories of volunteers and clients at www.faithinaction.com to see the impact volunteers make year-round. The organization also uses Volunteer Month as a time to encourage new community members to get involved. Volunteer orientation happens monthly or can be scheduled to fit.
“No matter your skills or schedule, there’s a way to give back,” said Eclov. “Even just a few hours a month can make a huge difference to your community and to you.”
