Bees N’ Brews: Shoreline pollinator open house May 4
Brews, bees, and better lakes – what more could you ask for? Join us on Sunday, May 4th, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. at Rendezvous Brewing in Hackensack for Bees N’ Brews, a shoreline pollinator open house that’s equal parts fun, informative and admission is free.
This casual, drop-in event invites community members, lake lovers, and curious property owners to grab a brew and learn how shoreline plants and buffers help protect our waters. Visitors will discover how native vegetation not only supports bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, but also plays a vital role in maintaining healthy, swimmable lakes.
“Shoreline buffers are nature’s filters,” says Ryan Carlson, Resource Conservationist with the Cass Soil and Water Conservation District. “They trap nutrients and sediment before they enter the water, which helps prevent algae blooms, reduces weed growth, and results in clearer, healthier lakes.”
These natural benefits also have real impacts for residents and lake users. Cleaner water means potentially higher property values, better fishing, and improved opportunities for swimming, boating, and relaxing on the water. It also means a healthier home for native wildlife, from monarchs to muskies.
The event will feature native plant tips, pollinator-friendly resources, a chance to plant native pollinator seeds to take home, and an opportunity to purchase local honey – all in the laid-back setting of Rendezvous Brewing, where you can enjoy their local craft brew, “Sunny Dream,” brewed with local honey from Hackensack and Longville.
Whether you own shoreline property or simply enjoy spending time on the lake, Bees N’ Brews is a great opportunity to connect with the Cass Soil and Water Conservation District and learn how to help keep our waters clean. Come sip, learn, and do your part to protect the Lakes in Cass County.
