Storm Volleyball falls against Nashwauk-Keewatin
The Hill City/Northland Storm volleyball team hosted a small school tournament Saturday, Sept. 21. With eight teams in attendance, the Storm walked away with fourth place while Cook County took home first.
The Storm faced Fond-du-Lac for the first game of the day and walked away with a win in two sets, 25-15 and 25-14. They then faced Little Fork-Big Falls and fell in three, 26-24; 18-25 and 15-17. Their third game of the day they took in two sets against Ogilvie, 25-17 and 25-9. The final game of the day was against LaPorte, which ended in a loss in two sets, 17-25 and 22-25.

The Storm then traveled to Nashwauk-Keewatin Monday, Sept. 23 and fell in four sets, 22-25; 19-25; 25-12 and 19-25.
Head Coach Stacey Wake said “serving and serve receive errors caused the Storm to struggle in a tight match-up at Nashwauk.” Coach Wake mentioned their goal in set three was to focus on their serving, and they ended up only having one serving error. “We are still working on staying focused and taking care of the task at hand. Charity Berg had a great night defensively and at the net,” stated Coach Wake.
The girls walked away with some great stats Monday night with Bella Dunham having 11 kills, 4 ace serves, and 12 digs; Charity Berg with 7 kills and 21 digs; Taylor Washburn with 5 kills, 18 assists and 1 block; Nora Wake with 4 kills and 1 block and Danika Johnson with 13 digs.
After another busy few days with the annual Bigfork tournament Saturday, Sept. 28 and traveling to Lake Christian Academy at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center on Monday, Sept. 30 they will head to Mountain Iron -Buhl High School Tuesday, Oct. 1, with seventh grade and JV beginning at 5:45 p.m.; eighth grade at 6:45 p.m. and Varsity starting at 7 p.m. The girls will then host Cherry on Monday, Oct. 7 and Bigfork on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in Remer. Action will kick off at 4:45 p.m on Monday for a ninth grade match and then seventh grade and JV will begin at 5:45 p.m.; eighth grade at 6:45 p.m. and Varsity starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday’s games will begin at 5:45 p.m. with seventh grade and JV taking the court, eighth grade beginning at 6:45 p.m. and Varsity starting at 7 p.m.
Join the Storm in supporting Breast Cancer Awareness during their home game Tuesday, Oct. 7. They will hosting a fundraiser that evening by selling t-shirts, wristbands, and grab bags. There will also be a silent auction on various gift baskets. All proceeds from the evening will go to the Breast Cancer Society.
