Arlan James Schires
Arlan was born on September 3, 1933 in Roseau MN to Arnold and Ina Schires. They moved to Minneapolis MN shortly after. After his parents divorced when he was ten years old, he went to live with grandparents, Lars and Lena Jenson in Roseau for four years. He was grateful to them for teaching him about Jesus Christ by taking him to church every Sunday. After that he went to live with his mother and stepfather in Kennewick, WA. When he was 14 years old he returned to live with his father and stepmother Doris.
Arlan was proud of his military service to his country. After basic training, he was deployed to Stuttgart Germany to help build floating Bailey bridges on the Rhine River with the Corp of Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, daughter Brenda, brothers Gary, Robert, Truman and Merle, sister Carole, aunts, uncles and several cousins. During his stay with his grandparents he spent time with his uncle Millard Jenson helping with farmwork and playing with cousins. He had fond memories of that time.
He met Jesus peacefully at home with his family by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Irene, daughters Karen Graham (Ed) and Diane Schires. Also survived by six grandchilren, Kylee, Robbie, Scottie, Aiden, Cash and Bryn and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Arlan was a gregarious man who loved people and loved singing praises to God in church choirs. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 26 at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11;00 a.m.
