100+ Women Who Care of the Leech Lake Area is excited to announce its 5th giving event was held on Oct 7, 2024 at the Arvig Walker Community Center for the selection of one non-profit 501-(c)(3) recipient. The non-profit that was selected from the 10 non-profits nominated by women in attendance was the Arvig WACC. The Arvig WACC received $8,480 raised in this one hour event as well as a $5,000 matching donation from the Rick Voight Memorial. (Donations to the 100 Women for the WACC are still coming in and gladly received by the WACC). The event brought together over 80 women (as well as donations from some who were unable to attend), to raise funds for local non-profit organizations in the Leech Lake area. At the event, each woman donated $100, (or what they are able) and then the women who are present voted on one of the 3 nominated non-profit organizations that are randomly selected.

We appreciate all of the people that made this month’s event happen! First, the room rental and a few other miscellaneous expenses to hold this event were provided by this event’s sponsor, The Meat Boutique of Walker. The appetizers were provided by Jackie Collins of Collins Catering. Coffee was provided by Theresa Bilben of the Village Square to go along with the delicious cookies made and provided by Sweet Salty and Sober. There were 4 beautiful fall planters donated by TJ Floral and these were given out as door prizes. The pretty fall table decorations were provided by Kristen Holly. And we cannot forget Bill Hanson Realty for their assistance!

The first 100 Women giving event that was held in December, 2022, raised over $13,000 for the Akeley Regional Community Center (ARCC) Emergency Shelter. The second giving event, held in May, 2023 raised over $12,000 for the Walker Area Food Shelf. The third giving event held in October 2023 raised over $8,000 for the Friends of the Dale and Harriet Jones Walker Library. The fourth giving event raised over $8,000 for The Door shelter in LaPorte. In addition, three of these non-profits qualified for a grant from the Richard M Schulze Foundation!

The event is open to all women who are interested in supporting the Leech Lake community and its non-profits. Attendees are encouraged to bring a friend or two to join in the fun and make an even bigger impact.

100+ Women Who Care of the Leech Lake Area is a group of women who come together two times a year to support our LOCAL non-profits. The original 100 Women Who Care organization was started in November of 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan, as a brilliantly simple way to raise money efficiently and quickly for local charities. Since then, Women Who Care chapters have been formed all over North America. (Our Leech Lake Committee have inspired groups to form in Nevis, Bemidji and now Grand Rapids!!) All of the North American groups collectively have donated well over a million dollars to local based non-profit organizations who are 501(c)(3). Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a difference in the Leech Lake community. More information about the event and the organization can be found on the Facebook Page 100+ Women Who Care of Leech Lake Area. You may call or text Margie Richardson 218-760-4715 or Mar Kuha 218-839-1974 if you have any questions.

SAVE THE DATE: Our next giving event will be May 5, 2025!!
