Garold Digre passed away on September 21, 2024 at the age of 81 surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren at his home in Buda, TX. Garold was born on October 2, 1942 in Portland, Oregon. Following WWII, he and his family returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he spent his childhood. Garold was very involved in his church where he participated in Sunday school, Luther League and attended Boy Scouts. He was a talented athlete playing football, hockey and running track.
At age 17, Garold enlisted in the US Army where he was stationed in Alaska and played hockey for the Air Force. Following his service, he worked as a mechanical designer.
Garold met the love of his life, Joyce Anderson, while both were working in Austin, TX. They were married a year later on May 12, 1979. Together they enjoyed going to dance halls, playing sports, and spending time with friends. Garold was also an avid fisherman, fishing throughout Minnesota and Canada.
Work opportunities brought them to Eden Prairie, MN where they were blessed with Marcus (1988) and Tina (1990). They decided to move and raise their family up north in Longville, MN. Completing the family, Beth was born (1992) and came home on Garold’s 50th birthday.
In the spring of 1993, Garold and Joyce took on a big adventure and became owners of Pine Haven Resort on beautiful Blackwater Lake. Together as a family they ran it for 14 years, making many friends and wonderful memories along the way.
Garold was actively involved and passionate about serving in Via de Cristo (way of Christ): a three-day weekend retreat that aims to strengthen Christian faith and awareness of living in God’s grace. Through his faith journey and the influence of Marcus’ conversion, he and Joyce converted to Catholicism in 2011.
In the fall of 2013 Garold and Joyce returned to Austin, TX to be close to their children. Garold spent the last 11 years of his life soaking up the Texas sun with a Coca Cola in hand surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren who lovingly refer to him as Pepa (pee-paw).
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Joyce of 45 years; his three children: Marcus (Madeline) Digre, Tina (Wade) Pistole, Beth (Brandon) Garrett; five grandchildren: Wyatt, Walker, and Waylon Pistole, Robert “Beau” and Caroline Digre; and sister Cheryl Britton.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his son Sean Digre.
