Carl George Mekola, age 69, of Remer, MN died Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at his home.
Carl was born in 1954 to George and Mary Mekola in Gary, IN. The family moved to Pine River, MN when Carl was 13. He graduated from Pine River High School, then attended trade school in Staples, MN. Carl enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves when he was 27 and served proudly for 10 years.
Carl worked at Ah-Gwag-Ching nursing facility in a few different capacities, first as a CNA, housekeeper, and finally in maintenance, retiring after 33 years. However, after retirement, which he found boring, he started working at various jobs to keep himself busy, including painting houses, Magnum Machining, and Evergreen Terrace.
Carl was a very social man and would visit with anyone. He pretended to like fishing but preferred going to the grocery store to get his fish, it was easier. Carl and his wife, Deb, enjoyed traveling together on mini trips, and camping.
He is preceded in death by his father, George; and daughter, Angelia Kathleen Mekola. Carl is survived by his wife of 16 years, Deb; mother, Mary; children, Tara (Tony) Nunez, Mindy (Eric) Beach, Kim (Justin) Carr, Amy Wagner, Ashely Mekola, Scott Wagner, Seth Wagner; siblings, Joanne Wright, Becky Mekola (Keryl Owen), Stella Mekola, Howard (Christine) Mekola, Wayne (Laura) Mekola, Kevin Mekola; 16 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Per Carl’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
