100 Years Ago

July 31, 1924

   Onigum was shut off from the rest of the world for about 3 days. The telephone line which went under the water and across Walker Bay had a short in it.

   Ben Lego and Miss Esther Shoemaker spent Tuesday in Grand Rapids.

   Father McEnery celebrated mass at St. Edward’s church last Sunday morning.

75 Years Ago

July 29, 1949

   Heavy rains are setting a July record in Cass Co. with 11.5” of rain. The Remer and Boy River areas report fields underwater. The road from 11 Mile Corner is under water.

   Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wolske are the parents of a baby boy born July 12th. She is the former Norma Miller.

   Louie Huffman and family, Harold Rosenbrook and Henry Olson returned to Brevik last week from the Northwoods after picking blueberries.

50 Years Ago

Aug. 1, 1974

   Mr. and Mrs. Allen Wake are the proud parents of a baby boy born Friday at the Deer River Hospital.

   Daisy Kendall of Remer has been helping her mother, Mrs. Raines, do some canning from her garden.

   The Irv Scheibe’s have sold their business, the Mule Lake store, to Mrs. and Mrs. Homer Spangrud.

Aug. 3, 1999 

     Cass County officials quickly sealed off the area surrounding the Longville Woodland Bank Monday after a single armed robber entered and demanded money. He was apprehended within 10 miles of the bank.

   Nodie Shepard, librarian at Longville’s library, accepted $1,600 toward the purchase of a public computer from the Longville Area Community Foundation.

   Three of Minnesota’s champion “big” trees went down during the July 4th windstorms. The northern white cedar, red maple, and sugar maple located near Boy River went down.
