   Cass County seeks public input on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) which has been prepared for the proposed Northern Waters RV Park (Shingobee Township). The proposed RV Park would be located in Shingobee Township, Section 19, Township 141 North, Range 31 West.

   The EAW is not meant to approve or disapprove a project, but simply is a source of information to guide other approvals and permitting decisions.  The information in the EAW process has two functions: to determine whether an Environmental Impact Statement is needed, and to indicate how the project can be modified to lessen its environmental impact(s); such modifications may be imposed as permit conditions by regulatory agencies.  

   The EAW states, “The proposed project consists of the conversion of an old resort into an RV park. The proposed RV park will be comprised of 47 sites within 16.6 acres. Sewer and water will be provided to each of the proposed sites along newly constructed roads. Existing buildings from the old resort will be removed from site during the construction phase.”

   Comments will be accepted during the 30-day public comment period, which begins on December 17, 2024, and ends on January 16, 2025, at 4:30 pm. An in-person public meeting to provide an additional forum to gather comments on the EAW will also be held on January 13, 2025 at the Cass County Land Department located at 218 Washburn Avenue East, Backus, MN 56435, at a time to be announced within the January Cass County Planning Commission Agenda which will be uploaded to the web address listed below no later than December 30, 2024 by 4:30 p.m.

Box 14, Pine River, MN 56474.  The EAW can also be viewed on Cass County’s website, https://www.casscountymn.gov/
