  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

Dec. 11, 1924

   The Longville community will be interested in knowing that we have a Ford agency at the garage.

   Harry Tressler sawed wood for the Pine Lake farmers on Saturday.

   A rag ball social will be held at the Boe school Friday and proceeds will go to hot lunches.

75 Years Ago

Dec. 9, 1949

   A pipeline is being constructed from Alberta, Canada and will go through Canada, North Dakota, and the north end of Cass County hitting the Cass Lake, Bena and Ball Club areas.

   The Island children have been unable to get to school for the past two weeks because the Boy River Bridge is still impassable.

   Leslie Beals sawed wood for Will Shepard and Bolander last week with Bill Jennings and Bolander helping.

50 Years Ago

Dec. 12, 1974

   A large group of friends attended the open house at the Margaret Welch Memorial library honoring Mrs. Harold Forbes on her retirement after 19 years of service.

   Anyone who wants the services of Santa Claus at their parties, call George Polo.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tabaka and Martha Gilmore were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Haas for dinner at Salem Lutheran Church on Saturday.

Dec. 14, 1999 

   Voters of Remer/Longville School District #118 gave a resounding “no” to the proposed $10.5 million construction and expansion proposal, 66% to 34%.

   Darcy Faul of Outing is a member of the Chemistry Club at BSR for the school year.

   Paul Zaffke of Boy River was a “Field Goal” winner in the September nationwide Ace hardware Ultimate Tailgate Sweepstakes and received a DeWalt Drill.
