Kenneth Dale Smith, 93, of Federal Dam, MN passed away on August 10th, 2024, at Autumn Lane Assisted Living, with his wife of 75 years by his side.
Kenneth was born in Walker, MN on April 26th, 1931, to Erra and Hortense Smith of Boy River.
Kenneth married Roberta (Bobbie) Campbell on February 18th, 1949, and lived on the Iron Range where he worked at Cleveland Cliffs Mines until he became a Mason in 1958. Kenneth and Bobbie lived in Boy River, and Sugar Point until they finally settled in Federal Dam in 1962. During his masonry carrier, he built commercial buildings, fireplaces, and hundreds of basements throughout northern Minnesota, many of which are still in existence. He was part of the Bricklayers Local 1 MN, ND, SD. He was a 60-year member. He ran work for various contractors on commercial jobs.
Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his family and he and Bobbie took several trips to Alaska to visit one of his daughters, a son-in-law and two grandchildren. Kenneth was a licensed pilot and would take his wife and children for rides in his airplane. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours cutting wood, mowing the lawn, gardening, and hunting. He was an avid reader and loved geography and studying maps and world atlases.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Henrianne Furst; daughter Cheryl Chalich, son-in-law Joesph Chalich, and special nephew-in-law, Terry Greenside. He is survived by his wife, daughters; Luella (Bob) Hare, Mary (Eric) Helling, Barbie (John) Hodder, Teresa (Scott) Johnson, and Kim Smith-Dickson; his son John (Terri) Smith; special niece Peggy Greenside; sisters Margaret Paluzzi and Louise Palm; 24 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Please join us in a celebration of life ceremony at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 24th at the Federal Dam Fire Hall.
