Laura J. Hansen, Attorney at Law, will give a presentation and workshop clarifying the legal steps following the death of a family member in Salem Lutheran Church’s fellowship hall in Longville. A meet and greet social with refreshments begins at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13. The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Attorney Hansen will explain the steps to take after a death in the family, discussing death certificates, locating estate documents, securing the residence, and administering the estate. Which tasks must be handled immediately, and which can wait? Knowing these steps in advance can bring the family clarity and peace of mind during a time of bereavement.
Special guests from Northern Peace Funeral Home will be present to answer questions relating to funeral arrangements and preplanning. This can be a valuable tool in your own final preparations.
Hansen is an attorney with Breen & Person, Ltd. and works out of the Walker office. Laura’s practice areas include Estate Planning, Probate, Business Law, Real Estate Law, and Business Succession. She is a graduate of Carleton College and the University of Minnesota Law School. Prior to joining the law firm, Laura worked in the family real estate business and for Cargill, Incorporated as in-house counsel and as a grain merchant. A particular area of interest for Laura is business succession which brings together estate planning and business / corporate law.
Hansen also enjoys working with clients on all areas of estate planning and helping them put in place a tailored plan that serves their needs and goals. She likes the challenge of advising area businesses on their wide-ranging legal needs. As an active member of the community, Laura has served on the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Board, the Longville Area Community Foundation Board, and she is currently on the Cass County Economic Development Corporation Board. Laura is a graduate of the Blandin Community Leadership Program and the Manager’s Forum at the Anderson Center. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association.
Laura is married to Bill Hansen, and together they have two adult children. In her free time, Laura enjoys all forms of skiing, boating, fishing, cooking, and travel.
