Two local veterans received a Quilt from Quilts of Valor and Quilts of Honor for their service in Vietnam. The organizations are comprised of volunteers who make quilts to give to veterans to show gratitude for their service, dedication and sacrifice on behalf of our country. Bob Peno of Hackensack served in the Army in Mechanized Infantry recovery, First Calvary, second army division recovering armored personal carriers and helicopters. While serving in Vietnam he was awarded many awards/medals including National Defense Service medal, Army Commendation medal, Republic of Vietnam campaign, Vietnam Service Ribbon with 2 stars. Gary Meyer of Longville, was in the Air Force, Airmen First Class in the Jolly Green Giant air rescue unit, rescuing downed pilots from behind enemy lines and is a Purple Heart recipient along with other various medals including Helicopter Rescue Award the “Winged S” Air Rescue Emblem, Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross with three Oak Leaf clusters. Presenting the quilts is Marcia Stevens from Quilts of Honor.
