   Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that on October 6th 2023 at 2:47 a.m. the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a fire at the Hiawatha Beach Resort Lodge building located on Steamboat Loop, on Leech Lake, rural Walker, MN. Responders arrived and found the main lodge building to be engulfed in fire. Several Fire Departments worked through the night to contain and extinguish the fire including the Walker Fire Department, Cass Lake Fire Department, Hackensack Fire Department, Laporte Fire Department and Park Rapids Fire Department with a ladder truck. North Memorial Ambulance assisted at the scene and no injuries were reported. The structure is a total loss. The fire incident remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
