Anthony (Tony) Charles Harder, age 72, of Boy River, passed away on June 24, 2023, at Americare Lodges Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MN.
Tony Harder was born on January 12, 1951, at Walker, Minnesota, the son of Byron and Cecelia (Ramstack) Harder. Tony grew up on the family farm near Longville, MN, and attended Longville Public Schools for nine years and one year In Remer Public Schools. The family moved to Marshall, MN to live while they kept their farm near Longville. Tony graduated from Marshall High School in 1969.
After he graduated high school, he worked on the Iron Range and drove the big dump trucks hauling iron ore from deep in the mine pits. When the mines closed in the 1970’s Tony attended Bemidji Technical College and graduated in carpentry. Tony worked as a finish carpenter near Olivia Minnesota. He returned to Longville Minnesota where he lived with his grandmother Elizabeth Harder. He worked for Longville Bait, owned by Jerry Lynch and then Jack Sonstegard and Dave Spartz.
Tony purchased his home in Boy River in the late 1980’s and worked around the country removing railroad tracks. He later drove truck for American Van Lines. He soon purchased his own truck and drove and arranged loads for Northern Tier Transportation in Remer. Tony later drove Ready Mix truck for Knife River. He retired in 2006 and continued to live at his home in Boy River.
He was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Cecelia (Ramstack) Harder, Brothers Dave and Pat, and a nephew Daniel, paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Tony is survived by his sister Jennie (Tim) Rudolph, his brother Don (Terry) Harder, his brother Tom Harder, his sister Theresa (Marlin) Schwalbe, his brother Jim (Mary) Harder, sisters-in-law Mardi Harder and Patty Harder, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hackensack, MN. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. prior to the service. The Celebrant will be Fr. Joe Fink, Deacon Jim, and Deacon Rick who will assist Fr. Joe. Burial of Cremains will be later that day at the Riverside Cemetery, Longville, MN. Special music provided by Organist Paula Abbott, and soloist Larry Refsland.
