Hill City/Northland Storm girls basketball
The Storm girls basketball team got back into the win column with a victory over Mille Lacs on Friday the 13th ending a string of losses going back into December.. The absence of one of the Storm’s leading players, Annika Spangler, has hampered the girls on both ends of the court.
Coming out the holiday break, the girls started the year against a tough SouthRidge team, falling 25-85. Lainee Spangler posted 11 points and six rebounds followed by Bella Dunham with five points and three boards. Maddie Barnes chipped in four points and four rebounds.
Next the Storm traveled to Blackduck to take on the Drakes. Spangler again led the offense with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Barnes added eight points and Tatum Peterson chipped in seven. It was to come up short again with a 39-61 loss.
On Jan. 12 the girls hosted Nashwauk/Keewatin in a tighter contest 50-63. Spangler put up 22 points, 11 rebounds and a pair of steals. Imani Richey came on strong with 11 points, 19 rebounds and three assists followed by Emma Finke with seven points and three assists.
The win came against Mille Lacs (50-46) with Finke leading the offensive charge with 18 points, three assists and three steals. Barnes followed with nine points and seven boards with Spangler adding seven points and nine rebounds.
