Northland School Board met for a special meeting Mon., Aug. 7 to accept the resignation of Mark Motherway as high school principal and discuss and approve the future administration model for the district.
Board Chair Marc Ruyak began the meeting with the acceptance of Motherway’s resignation and acknowledging the boards appreciation for everything he had accomplished at the school. Ruyak then asked for a motion to approve the administration model that was discussed during the previous weeks work session consisting of a Superintendent/High School Principal, Elementary Principal and Dean of Students. Although the motion was only made for the 2023 - 2024 school year, it was acknowledged the board has the intention of this being the model for the next three years.
After approval of the new administration model a motion was made to restructure the role of Interim Superintendent Mary Yakibchuk to include the duties of high school principal and designate her as Interim Superintendent/High School Principal for the 2023 - 2024 school year. A motion was also made to hold future negotiations regarding Yakibchuk’s contract as Interim Superintendent, with both of these motions being approved unanimously.
Ruyak then made a motion to discuss and approve a Dean of Students position. Elementary Principal Janessa Green and Yakibchuk shared a job description for the position and stated that although an administration license was not required it is prefered. If the appropriate candidate is found and does not have a license, all administrative duties would be performed by Yakibchuk. The board approved the job description along with duties and approved posting for the position effective immediately with an application close date of until filled.
The board has scheduled the following meetings: a regular meeting, Wed., Aug. 16 at 5:30 p.m. all meetings are held at Northland High School.
