Eagles place five on All-Conference teams
While the 2021-2022 Eagles boys’ basketball season didn’t quite last as long as they had hoped, they still had a successful season that resulted in two all-Conference and three honorable mention all-conference selections.
Alec Wake was selected to his third consecutive all conference team and he was joined by first-time selection Nolan Carlson. Aiden Carlson, Liam Wake and lone senior Nathan Johnson were all selected as honorable mention all-conference.
With a 21-7 record, the Eagles set a high mark for wins, finishing second in the Northern Lakes Conference for a second consecutive year.
“One of our goals coming in was to win the conference” stated Eagle Coach Chris Carlson. “We didn’t quite get there, but we feel like we have a good shot next year.” Northland has not won the conference since 1980.
Other notable events during the season included a triple-double by Nolan Carlson. Aiden Carlson and Alec Wake hit nine three-pointers in a game. Wake also passed both the boys’ and girls’ all-time scoring records and had a 45-point game against Mille Lacs that broke the single game scoring mark.
With four returning starters, the Eagles will look to their JV that finished 18-7 for support. Leading the way on the JV were juniors Ron Day, Jace Jackson and Jason Tschida. Sophomores Brevin Jackson and Trey Tabaka, along with freshmen Jamison Wood and Anthony Robison played a lot of minutes on the JV this year. All will look to push for minutes on varsity next season.
The team has a busy off season planned and look to build on the momentum that they have built the last few years with their sights set on a conference championship and a deep playoff run in 22-23.
