Eagles finish regular season 20-6 with win over Southridge
In a literal David vs. Goliath match-up, the Northland Boys’ basketball team defeated a Southridge team that boasted a front line of 6’9”, 6’8”, and 6’4“.
The Eagles jumped out to a 12-point half time lead and stretched it to 15 for a final score of 68-53. Northland committed only six turnovers and five fouls in a game that highlighted the Eagles’ efficient style of play. The 20-win mark in the regular season has not been achieved since high school schedules expanded to 26 games at Northland.
Leading the Eagles in scoring for the second straight game was Aiden Carlson who had 20 points and six rebounds. Alec Wake followed up with 16 including four 3-pointers and Nolan Carlson had 13 points and six assists. Rounding out the scoring was Nathan Johnson, who was injured late in the game, with 10 and Liam Wake with nine. The Eagles are hoping for a quick recovery for Johnson who has been a key contributor all season.
Northland plays against Ely at home on Thursday at 6:00 for their first section playoff game. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, no passes will be allowed. If the Eagles advance to the second round it will be at the UMD gymnasium in Duluth at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
