Eagles extend winning streak to six
The Eagles boys’ basketball team remains undefeated in 2022 after three more wins against Carlton, Greenway and Cromwell. As the season has progressed, the recipe of efficient offence, few turnovers, and pressure defense that proved successful last year is working again.
“We are starting to play our style of basketball again,” said Coach Chris Carlson. “If we continue to improve, we will win a lot of games”.
In a make-up game from the previous week, the Eagles hosted the Carlton Bulldogs and came away with an 82-35 victory in a game that was never close. Full court pressure and easy baskets paved the way for the victory over the Bulldogs.
Nolan Carlson led the way with 25 points and nine rebounds. Alec Wake contributed 23 points and eight rebounds to go along with six assists. Liam Wake scored 11 points and Aiden Carlson had a strong floor game with eight points, six assists, and seven steals.
On Friday the Eagles traveled to Coleraine to take on the Greenway Raiders. Going into the game the Eagles knew the key would be shutting down Grant Hansen, the Raider’s all conference point guard. Liam Wake drew the assignment, and he didn’t disappoint, holding Hansen to 16 points and forcing several turnovers. On offence, Nolan Carlson picked up where he left off against Carlton, scoring a career high 28 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Alec Wake followed up with 21 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. Aiden Carlson scored 15 and Nathan Johnson had 11 in the victory.
Monday the Eagles were again on the road, travelling to Cromwell to take on the Cardinals. Cromwell, who has struggled with health, had everyone on the court to face Northland and were optimistic going in. The first half was a back-and-forth affair with the Eagles jumping out to a 37-23 halftime lead. Early in the second half, the Cardinals pulled to within six, but the Eagles pulled away for a convincing 72-53 victory.
Alec Wake had 21 points to lead five players in double figures that included Liam Wake with 16, Aiden Carlson with 12, Nathan Johnson with 11 and Nolan Carlson with 10. With the Eagles in foul trouble, Brevon Jackson came in and gave the team quality minutes all night, scoring a basket and getting several steals and rebounds.
The Eagles travel to Deer River on Friday to take on the rival Warriors.
