Storm top Spartans and Mille Lacs
The Hill City/Northland Storm girls basketball team traveled to Nashwauk-Keewatin on Thursday, January 13 to take on the Spartans. The Storm dominated the first half scoring (39-4) behind the offense degerated by the Spangler sisters and never looked back finishing at 63-23 at the final buzzer.
Leading the scoring for the Storm was Annika Spangler with 21 points, 13 rebounds and five assists followed by Laine Spangler with 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Alynza Welk chipped in eight points while Ava Smith added seven points and 14 rebounds.
The following night the ladies hosted Mille Lacs in Remer. Despite a tight one-point lead going into halftime, the ladies continued to produce on offense and walked away with a second win in as many nights 59-53.
Laine Spangler put up a double-double effort of 18 points and 18 rebounds followed with another by Alynza Welk with 15 points and 10 boards. Annika Spangler added six points and 11 rebounds to the winning effort.
Monday, January 11 had the girls on the road to Chisholm. The buckets did not fall as well as the previous outings and the Storm found themselves on the short end of a 86-43 final.
Laine Spangler put up 14 points with nine rebounds, Ava Smith added 11 points and seven boards and Annika Spangler accounted for six points and seven rebounds.
