Eagles return from break with two convincing wins
After a disappointing 4-4 start to the season, the Northland Eagle boys started 2022 with two wins, beating Nashwauk-Keewatin 73-53 and Littlefork-Big Falls 78-40, improving their record to 6-4.
The team traveled to Nashwauk to take on the Spartans and jumped out to an early 14-5 lead, but after several missed opportunities around the basket, the Eagles found themselves up three at the break. Midway through the second half, shots started falling for the Eagles and the lead stretched to 20 points at the end of the game. Leading the way for the Eagles was Alec Wake with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Nolan Carlson added 16 points and eight rebounds, Nathan Johnson had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Aiden Carlson had a strong all-around game with 11 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.
On Monday the team traveled to Littlefork to take on the Vikings. The game saw Littlefork take an early lead, but a 24-0 run by the Eagles behind full and half court pressure put the game way early and Northland cruised to an easy 38-point victory. Alec Wake had 22 points, seven rebounds and nine steals to lead the way for the Eagles. Behind six 3-pointers, Aiden Carlson had 20 points. Nolan Carlson had 19 points and nine rebounds, Liam Wake led the way with six assists and Nathan Johnson had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Eagles travel to Wrenshall on Friday looking to extend their winning streak to three games.
