Eagles stumble into the break losing 2 of 3
When the schedule came out, the Eagles Boys’ basketball team knew it started with some tough opponents including several of the top teams in the state. In the last three contests, they managed to beat the Chisholm Bluestreaks 70-69 on two clutch free throws by Nolan Carlson with 1.5 seconds left and fall by big margins to both Northwoods and Mountain Iron Buhl.
The Chisholm game was a back-and-forth affair with the Eagles falling behind early and then swapping leads with the solid Chisholm team all second half. With the Eagles down one, they moved the ball up the court and Alec Wake found Carlson streaking to the basket where he was fouled on the drive with 1.5 seconds left. He calmly made both free throws and the last second heave by Chisholm came up short.
Nathan Johnson Led the way with 19 points. Alec Wake had 18 and Nolan Carlson and Liam Wake each added 13. Jeffery Myers led on the boards with seven rebounds.
In other action this week the Eagles lost to the Northwoods Grizzlies 103-78 in a game that was never close.
Alec Wake and Aiden Carlson both had 17 points to lead the scoring. Nolan Carlson and Liam Wake had 15 and 13 respectively to round out the scorers in double figures.
To close out the pre-Christmas break action, the Eagles traveled to Virginia to face the MIB Rangers. Missing Aiden Carlson, the Eagles struggled on both ends of the floor falling 102-51.
Leading the Eagles in scoring was Nolan Carlson with 18. Liam Wake was the only other player in double figures with 12.
The Eagles look to get back on track in Nashwauk on January 4th coming out of the break.
