The Northland Eagles boys’ basketball team traveled to Onamia to take on the Mille Lacs Raiders, a newly formed co-op between Isle and Onamia in what turned out to be another record setting night for junior Alec Wake. Fresh off setting the career scoring total last week, Wake scored 45 points to break the single game mark behind nine 3-pointers, all in the first half. The previous high of 44 was held by Keith Kunari and Aaron Jackson who was in attendance.
“We were able to move the ball well against their 2-3 zone and if you give Alec open shots, he will knock them down,” said Eagles Coach Chris Carlson.
In the second half the Raiders shifted to man-to-man defense and Wake went to work inside the arc to push his total to 45. He had 11 steals to lead a stingy defense that held the Raiders to only six first half points. Aiden Carlson had 21 points, eight assists, and five steals and Liam Wake had seven assists, five steals, and seven rebounds to go along with six points in a strong all-around game.
The Eagles look to get Nolan Carlson back from an ankle injury as they look to position themselves for the playoffs with a busy schedule that includes home games on Thursday against Hill City, Friday against Bagley, and Monday against section 7A powerhouse Cherry.
