Earlier in the year Alec Wake passed the career scoring mark for boys’ basketball of 1246 points held by Keith Kunari. This week the junior moved past Mia (Peterson) Thibodeau’s 1625-point career mark that was tops among both boys and girls and has stood for more than two decades in a 77-49 win over Silver Bay.
Wake notched his 12th point that put him over the mark on a free throw early in the second half on his way to a game high 27 points to go along with 10 assists and five steals. Early in the first half, junior guard Nolan Carlson, who is having an exceptional year, went down with an ankle injury. Aiden Carlson and Liam Wake stepped up with 15 and 14 points respectively and a trio of Ron Day, Brevon Jackson and Jace Jackson helped carry the Eagles to the win. Nathan Johnson also had a solid game with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
Following the Friday night game, the Eagles continued up the North Shore to take on the Cook County Vikings on Saturday. This time it was Alec Wake that went down with an injury in the first half, but the continued strong play of Liam Wake, Nathan Johnson, and Aiden Carlson along with the solid play of the Eagles’ reserves carried Northland to another big win, 69-32.
Wake, Carlson, and Johnson all had 13 points to lead the way in scoring with Johnson corralling 10 rebounds and Carlson dishing out eight assists. Alec Wake managed 12 points before exiting with the injury and Brevon Jackson added nine points in his first career start for the injured Nolan Carlson.
The Eagles look to get their guys healthy in preparation for a road game against Mille Lacs on Friday.
