11-5 Eagles fall to Deer River, top McGregor
The Eagles boys basketball team was looking to make it three wins in a row over the Deer River Warriors, but poor 3-point shooting and Deer River’s size was too much for the shorthanded Eagles, falling 86-70.
Going into the game, Eagles coach Chris Carlson knew he wouldn’t be making many substitutions, missing several reserves and having a stable starting five. He did not, sticking with the starting five all night.
“The kids played hard, but in the end, we just didn’t make enough shots to play with a team like Deer River,” Carlson said.
Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Nathan Johnson with 27 points and nine rebounds. The rest of the starting five all hit double figures with Alec Wake, Liam Wake and Nolan Carlson with 11 and Aiden Carlson with 10 to go along with nine assists and nine rebounds.
Looking to get back on track, the Eagles traveled to McGregor to face the Mercs. After an even first few minutes, the Eagles took control and surged to a 16-point halftime lead, finishing with an 81-47 victory.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Alec Wake who had 25 points including seven 3-pointers. Nolan Carlson had 21 and Nathan Johnson had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Aiden Carlson had 10 points and nine assists.
Northland’s schedule is set up for a strong finish as they start to position themselves for the playoffs with the majority of their remaining games coming at home.
