Wake eclipses 2000 point mark as Eagles knock off Northwoods
Alec Wake became the first player in Northland History to surpass 2000 career points as the Eagles took down the Northwoods Grizzlies, one of the elite teams in section 7A over the last 10 years. A Wake drive to the basket that pushed him past the mark was part of a huge Eagles’ run late in the second half that saw a 14-point Northwoods’ lead shift to a 9-point deficit. The run included a barrage of three pointers including four by Aiden Carlson who had seven for the game on his way to a team high 28 points. Eagles assistant coach Bill Wake said that “When Aiden is on his game like he was tonight, we are really tough to defend”.
Alec Wake was also able to notch his first career triple double on his record-breaking night with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Eagles coach Chris Carlson stated that “Alec has been an amazing player for the Eagles over his career and his scoring stats don’t tell the whole story.” Carlson continued, “He has really been a great all-around player and team leader for us as well”.
Nolan Carlson had another strong effort in the win, putting up 19 points despite battling foul trouble most of the night. Liam Wake led a defensive effort that held Northwoods’ leading scorer, Jonah Burnett to 13 points.
The Eagles have two huge games this week starting out Tuesday in Chisholm and closing out with Mt. Iron Buhl in Remer on Thursday.
