A Celebration of Life officiated by Pastor Trisha Jorgenson will be held at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville MN on Saturday, September 29 at 11:00 am. Visitation commences one-hour prior.
Yvonne was born on October 7, 1932 to Ennis and Mary (Young) Holm at their family home in Baldwin Township near Princeton Minnesota. She was baptized into the family of God as an infant. Her family later moved to South Minneapolis and she graduated from Roosevelt High School. While in school, she worked as a "carhop" for a drive-in restaurant where she met and fell in love with Kenneth Ekholm.
After their marriage, Yvonne and Ken raised two boys and a girl (Mike, Steve, and Pam) in Richfield, Minnesota. She was a homemaker and an "Avon Lady", where her positive spirit and love of people earned her several awards. At every job she had, her gift as a "people person" enriched the people with whom she had contact. She was an eternal optimist.
Her heart was broken when her husband of 32 years, and father of her 3 children, Ken, died suddenly of a heart attack in 1983 at the age of 52.
After his death, she kept herself busy with work during the day and square dancing at night. She was the Queen of her square-dancing club; that is where she serendipitously met Tom Buttrey. Yvonne and Tom were deeply devoted to each other and in 2007, their relationship was sanctified in the eyes of God by a retired Pastor. They were very happy.
In recent years she tirelessly devoted her life to providing the care Tom needed as his memory began to fail; her love and care for him and the rest of her family never wavered.
Yvonne "Grandma Bonnie" was preceded in death by her parents Ennis and Mary, her husband Ken, and her siblings Joni Hopper, and Rick Holm. She is survived by her Life Companion: Tom; her children: Mike Ekholm, Steve (Jane) Ekholm, and Pam (Tim) Bostwick; her grandchildren: Michael (Christina) Ekholm, Melissa (Chris) Hoffer, Kirsten (Jeremy) Lyson, and Annika (Dave) Arrowwood; and her great-grandchildren: Ken, Stacie, Jeffrey, Jonathan, and Annalee.
The family suggests memorials to Paw and Claws Rescue & Resort in Hackensack, MN, the Longville Area Food Shelf, and Act on Alzheimer's.
