Woman Girl Lake water patrol seeks volunteers

To the Editor,

There is a small group of dedicated, volunteer boaters who cruise the waters of Girl and Woman Lake in a boat provided by the Cass County Sheriff. Their goal is to enhance safety on the water and verify that boaters are operation in compliance with Minnesota boating regulations.

You will usually see the water patrol on the lakes at random times, usually on weekends when more boaters are on the water. You might see them asking a jet skier to slow down a little when operating near the shore or close to other boaters. Or they might come up close to your boat to ask if you have a proper PFD for each person onboard, a fire extinguisher, if required, or to verify that your boat registration is current.

These volunteers are your neighbors and are out there to help make your day on the water safer and to give you a helping hand if needed.

We are currently looking to recruit additional volunteers. If you are interested in joining this group of local boaters, please contact Ted Sigtenhorst at (218) 363-3634.[[In-content Ad]]
