Wishing will make it so?
To the Editor,
He said in part that "Our economy is moving again; people all across this country are going back to work. People are beginning to take home paychecks instead of unemployment checks."
"They are paying their mortgages and caring for their children."
The reality today is the Federal Reserve reported that the economy may not recover for 5 or 6 years and unemployment will remain high. On Friday of last week, the Dow plummeted 261 points.
Wouldn't you think a congressman who has been in office over 34 years would have a better feel for the economy than Oberstar has? His talent for getting re-elected 17 times far exceeds his ability to know that is happening to our country and its economy.
Many years ago, a retiring congressman from Minnesota said, "Washington DC is a 100 square mile city surrounded by reality."
Congressman Oberstar lives in the Washington DC suburb of Potomac, Maryland and has served himself well. His theme song seems to be "Wishing will make it so."
