Who really has our best interest at heart?
To the Editor,
The Republicans think all people should be treated fairly. But they think the top 2% should be treated more fairly with their reduced tax rate. And the taxpayers should subsidize big businesses that make billions of dollars in profit every year. And corporations should be allowed to keep their loopholes that allow them to pay no taxes.
They say Social Security, the government mandated insurance trust, is unsustainable and must be changed. Why is it unsustainable in it's present form? Oh, that's right. The government only makes people at the lower end of the earning scale pay on their entire earnings. Those making millions only have to pay the same amount as those making $106,000. Even at that, those working 50 years should have a nice retirement benefit after all those years of interest compounded. Instead the government used the excess funds every year for other pet projects. So because the government mishandled the program, the beneficiaries must suffer.[[In-content Ad]]And Medicare should be reformed also according to them. We can't have the government paying out all that money to take care of sick people. When a pharmaceutical company like Merck can make $12.9 billion in profits and pay it's CEO $11.9 million in compensation, why not pass a tax on excess profits? It is unconscionable that a company would have a policy that if people want to be healthy and live, they will find some way to pay for their over priced products.
Okay, now I have questioned what I hear and read and have come to the conclusion that the Republicans only care about their party and not about what is best for the people they are supposed to represent. Aren't they special?
