Vandals damage trail bridge in Beulah Township
The county board Tuesday authorized the county land department to contribute up to $3,000 to match $5,000 Emily-Outing Snowbirds snowmobile club and Over the Hills Gang ATV club raised to repair the bridge.
Remer Iron Works has been engaged to provide new, all metal supports for the bridge. Club members will provide the labor to install decking on top of the new bridge framework before this winter's snowmobile season.
The Alpine Trail has been closed until the bridge can be replaced.
Northfork Boulders submitted the lowest of three bids at $28 per yard to provide up to 40 yards of taconite tailings for repairing sandy washouts on the Bull Moose Trail in Bull Moose Township.
A logger working in that area will spread the tailings and repair the trail.
Cass County sold $89,980 worth of timber from county administered land at a Sept. 24 auction. Loggers paid $30.23 per cord for aspen, $39.22 per cord for red oak and $21.12 for jack pine, the three largest volume tree species sold.
Four survey firms won contracts to survey county land boundaries where the county plans to offer future timber auctions.
Stonemark Land Surveying will site boundaries for tracts in Blind Lake and Fairview townships for $ 23,790. SMS Survey Mapping Solutions will site boundaries for tracts in Bungo and Moose Lake townships for $15,620. Kohout Surveying will site boundaries on one tract in Loon Lake Township for $5,560. Nyberg Surveying will site boundaries on one tract in Meadowbrook Township for $5,090.
Average cost per mile for the surveys will be $2,547.
James Adrian was the lowest of five bidders at $1,150 to inspect two recently tax forfeited properties and the old Shingobee Township highway garage for asbestos and regulated materials.
The tax forfeited houses are in the city of Cass Lake and Pike Bay Township.
