Upcoming No. Country Trail Itasca Moraine Chapter events

The Itasca Moraine Chapter of the North Country Trail Assoc. has scheduled a two-day canoeing, hiking, camping event at Lake Waboose in the Paul Bunyan State Forest. The event is scheduled for Friday Night and Saturday July 22 and 23. Camping will be at the Waboose Campground with tent pads and a wilderness latrine. Lake Waboose is surrounded by the Paul Bunyan State Forest with a public boat access. Participants will reach the campground via canoe from the pubic access. Canoe rides will be furnished to the campground for those who do not bring their own canoe. Following camping on Friday night, participants can bushwhack around Lake Waboose on a trail under development that features old growth conifers. Tools will be available for anyone wishing to take a crack at trail building. Fishing, swimming and just hanging out in the wilderness are options as well. The event ends early Saturday evening.[[In-content Ad]]To reach the Lake Waboose public access, drive north of Nevis just over 4 miles on Hwy 2 and proceed straight ahead on Inner Forest RD at the point where Hwy 2 turns to the northwest. The public access is approximately 2 miles north on Inner Forest RD. Rides to the campground commence at 4:00PM Friday evening. Participants need to bring food and water for Friday evening and Saturday plus a tent and sleeping bag. For questions, call 218-675-5448.
