Uniform price rates set at waste transfer sites

By MONICA LUNDQUIST- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

WALKER-The Cass County Board approved a uniform price rate for amounts the public will pay to bring their garbage to any of the county's three solid waste transfer sites.

Those sites are in May Township, north of Pine River along Highway 371 and north of Hackensack a half mile east of Highway 371.

Garbage in small kitchen bags (white bags up to tall kitchen can size) will cost $1. Garbage in bags for a 20 or 30 gallon garbage can will cost $4 per bag. Garbage in leaf and lawn size bags will cost $6 per bag.

The charge for a mattress/box spring or a piece of furniture will be $5 each.

Construction materials accepted at the Walker-Hackensack site only will cost $20 to $25 per yard, depending upon the materials.

One appliance per month per Cass resident or property owner will be accepted free. Four passenger vehicle tires per month per resident/property owner will be accepted free.

Other items for which there will be no charge to residents/property owners include electronics, motor oil/filters and antifreeze.

Yard waste disposal and compost is available only at Pine River and Walker-Hackensack to residents/property owners.

The reason so many of these materials can be accepted without charge and that the use is limited to residents and property owners is it's paid for by the solid waste charge levied on every property owner's tax bill.

That solid waste charge on property tax bills also helps the county pay to offer free recycling bins throughout the county.
