LONGVILLE - Theodor Arthur Pedersen was born in Stockholm, SD, on August 19, 1923, the son of Theodor and Mae (Hendricks) Pedersen. They moved from the family farm to the Whipholt Area when he was 13. He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. He was on the USS Yorktown when it was sunk at Midway. He was in the water for four plus hours before he was rescued. He was reassigned to the destroyer USS Charles Ausburne with "The Little Beaver Squadron". On October 26, 1945, he was discharged from the Navy and returned to Whipholt where he purchased the general store. He was united in marriage to Ramona Kingsley on April 25, 1947. The couple ran the store for more than 20 years before he began working in the insurance and investment industry.

Ted was a member of the Walker American Legion and was a past Commander. He was also a lifetime member of the Longville VFW where he also served as Commander for four years. He enjoyed his family and friends. He liked to hunt, fish and fool around with his sons as well as read, dance, and play a number of card and board games. He felt a special bond with his shipmates and looked forward to the many reunions they had around the US. Ted will be remembered for sharing his big smile with everyone. He will be missed by family and friends.

Ted is survived by his wife, Ramona; his daughter, Terrie (Kevin); sons, Steve (Marie) and Paul (Janet); and grandson, Grant. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary.

Ted died Monday, July 25, 2011. Memorial Services for Ted will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Longville Community Church with Pastor Duane Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church.
