Tax cuts for the wealthy do not make sense
To the Editor,
Only when there is more consumer demand for their products will they begin to hire people. It makes much more sense to give tax cuts to the middle class and the poor. They will more than likely go out and spend the money rather than sitting on it. This will create the demand that businesses need to begin expanding and hiring. Since our economy is consumer driven we need to get more money in the hands of the 90% rather than the top 10%.
I believe it makes more economic sense to focus on the poor and middle classes and it is the moral thing to do.
The Bible is full of passages that focus on the poor and the needy. Over and over again God commands his people to care for the widow and the orphan, the most vulnerable groups at that time. In addition, there is emphasis upon the King attending to the poor. Since the king was the government, we can read the verses referring to the king as referring to government. Psalm 72 is a good example. Verse 4 says: "May he (Government) defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor." Verses 12-13 say :"For he (Government) delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper. He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy"(NRSV).
