In her earlier years she enjoyed miniature bowling, camping, a friendly brat fry as well as live music and dancing. She was also a member of the Crooked Lake Sports Club and the Crooked Lake Yacht Club during many years at Hoeft's Resort. Susan was a strong and vocal advocate for workers' rights. She lobbied for organized labor unions regularly and led the way in many of their campaigns and discussions as a Member and Officer of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 147-T, also as a Delegate and Executive Board Member to the Sheboygan County Labor Council AFL-CIO. In January 2018, Susan was awarded the honor of Sheboygan County AFL-CIO 2018 Labor Person of the Year.
