Stockings for Soldiers
To the Editor,
During Summerfest in Longville last year, the Auxiliary asked the public for a $5 donation to help fill a stocking with needed supplies for a National Guard Unit that consisted of over 50 Minnesota Guardsmen. Along with the donation, donors were asked to sign a homemade card to include in a stocking.
The Auxiliary sent the stockings and have received a few replies from recipients of the special gift. The following are a few of the notes received from the Guardsmen:
"Thank you all so much for the Christmas stockings - this package meant so much to all of us! Knowing we have support from so many back home makes things a little bit easier to deal with. Can't wait to be home and come visit Longville."

"Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you for the wonderful stockings that you put together and sent. I am the Platoon leader here at F013 Farah's Dustoff. We have been so busy that we have forgot about decorations and simple traditions that we observe back home. We especially like the goodies inside! We don't have a PX here to buy goodies and such. Thank you again for your support and appreciation. God bless.

"My name is Nathan Ernst. I am with Cco Z/z11 Med. My unit received a package from you wonderful patriots. I just wanted to write a quick note and say thank you very much for the wonderful gesture. It means a lot to know we are still being thought about being over here. It was very nice to receive the stocking from you. All of the contents are very appreciated. The stocking also makes a great Christmas decoration in my room of plywood. I hope the holidays find you all well. Merry Christmas from Afghanistan."

VFW Post 772 Auxiliary will sponsor the Stockings for Soldiers project again in 2013. To help the Auxiliary succeed in sending Christmas to the men and women serving overseas, look for them at various Longville events, where you can make a $5 donation to make a big Christmas for our service men and women who won't be home for Christmas 2013.[[In-content Ad]]
