Second Chance deserves just that

To the Editor,

By Karla Tschida Remer Minn.- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

People of the Remer area have been fortunate to have A Second Chance Thrift Store on the main street of Remer. It is the place for quality, but no longer needed items of clothing, furniture, home décor and more to be dropped off and having the profit from the selling of the items stay in the community to benefit local children. These benefits include pre-school scholarships, after school activities and more. Shoppers from far and near can enjoy ever changing eclectic offerings of books, clothes, holiday items, household goods, accessories and much more at bargain prices.

Recently, the governing board of A Second Chance voted to close the store due to financial burdens. This knowledge was not made known to the public until the decision had already been made. My feeling is the public, philanthropic organizations, and church and civic groups will come to the aid of the store if the need is known.[[In-content Ad]]

If you feel as I do that the store is invaluable for the good of the Remer business community as a whole, a place for citizens to volunteer for as little as an hour or two, a wonderful resource for people of limited means, and just an enjoyable place to shop, please consider contacting the board and asking them to reconsider their decision. You can write them at The Board of A Second Chance, c/o The Northland Family Center, PO Box 304, Remer MN 56672; call 218-566-3636; e-mail [email protected]; or stop in at the shop on Main Street or the Family Center at 320 Eagle Ave, Remer.
