Ron was born February 5, 1939 at Brookings, SD to Roland Festus Hammer and Ethel Faye Schroeder. He was raised by his grandparents Erie and Ethyl Schroeder at Sunset Bay Resort, Hackensack, MN. He married retired banker and attorney, the former Jean A. Tangcalagan, at Bull Shoals United Methodist Church on May 22, 1999. Ron entered the US Navy February 1956 and retired January 1975. He served a number of duty stations mainly in the Far East with five tours of duty in Vietnam. Ron was a long time antiques dealer and a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Jean of the home; four children by previous marriages, Terri Vail Ramsey (David) of Rapid City, SD, Marc Dennis Hammer (Deanna) of San Diego, CA, Evelyn Marie Martinez (Andrew) of Glendale, AZ, Christopher Dwayne Hammer (Rhonda) of Glendale, AZ; mother Faye Steece of Sioux Falls, SD; four brothers, Charles Hammer (Ruth) of Whidby Island, WA, Bob Myers (Donna Rowe) of Palm City, Florida, Dr. Rick Steece (Pam) of Pierre, SD, Mike Steece (Anne Leedom) Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Debbie Doran (Don) of Pahoa, HI; grandchildren, Robert Lee Hays (Lori Beth), Joseph Ernest Hays (Excelsa), Amber Marie Martinez, Elyse Renee Martinez, and Samuel Joseph Martinez; great-grandchildren, Ceasar Ernesto Hays, Nickolas James Hays, Shelby Elizabeth Hays, Krista Vail Hays, Joi Elyse Hays; and his extended family in the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.
