Robert Kohanek, Sr.

Robert was born August 31, 1934 to Edward and Gladys (Smith) Kohanek in Minneapolis, MN. He attended school and graduated in Columbia Heights, MN and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955. He was a Korean War Veteran. Bob met Donna Apel in 1955 and married her the following year at Mount Carmel Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights. Robert attended school at the University of Minnesota for a year; then he worked for Red Owl and Minnesota Marine. He was a longtime NE Minneapolis resident where he was owner/operator of Central Lanes Bowling Alley along with his mother Gladys. He later managed Maple Lanes Bowling Alley in Fridley until 1996; when he retired and moved with Donna to Longville.
Bob loved golfing and fishing, and enjoyed volunteering. He served on the town council, liquor, zoning and airport commissions for Longville, as well as volunteering at Salem Lutheran Church.
Survivors are Robert's wife, Donna; children, Linda (Jim) Osiecki, Mike (Mary) Kohanek, Bob Kohanek, Jr., Ed Kohanek; 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Joe, Carrie, Katie, Robert, and Tony; and 7 great-grandchildren, Ava, Elizabeth, Gunner, Brian, Autumn, Aspen, Amara, and one on the way.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Gladys Kohanek; step-father, Al Marcus; sister, Joan Blake; and infant brother, Eddie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville, with a gathering of friends and family one hour prior to service. Arrangements are being handled by Dennis Funeral Home (www.dennisfuneralhome.com).
