Riverside Cemetery Improvements

To the Editor,

As Memorial Day approaches soon, I'm hoping to take the next steps to improve the Riverside Cemetery. As more donations are made we will resume the projects. Members of the local garden club have indicated their interest in establishing a significant flower garden around the new sign. Regular watering of that garden will require a service, which I'm told may have to be done by a watering service.

The next steps will require lumber and windows to enclose the Gazebo so it can house an up to date map and perhaps, other amenities. Our desire to mark unmarked graves will require a number of "foot stones" to replace the tin markers and to identify unmarked graves.

Some individuals and families have stepped forward to donate in memory of their loved ones. As I walk around the cemetery I see markers for many family members in large groups. Individuals within these families are encouraged to gather donations from all relatives who are willing to cooperate. Donations have ranged from $10 to $1000 and both are appreciated. If we could get everyone with loved ones buried at Riverside to donate there are many improvements that can be made. With each group or individual donation we can continue the work. I, for one, will not stop trying to do as much as we can afford.

All donations should be sent or dropped off at Longville City Hall designated for the Longville Cemetery Fund. We're anxious to receive your help. Questions or suggestions can be sent to me at: [email protected] or you can call me at (218) 335-2709.[[In-content Ad]]
