He was born Dec. 27, 1927 to Seth & Martha Viola (Shawgo) Leeds in Canton, IL. He was a 1946 Canton graduate.
He married Barbara (Todd) on Sept 29, 1951 in Canton, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his children Rick (Patti) Leeds, Judy Leeds, Cindi Laswell, Sandi (John) Bredemeier and Brad (Lena) Leeds; 12 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren.
He was a living-organ donor, having donated a kidney to his oldest daughter, Becky, in 1996. She predeceased him in 2001.
He was also proceeded in death by his parents, infant daughter Peggy Ann, and 2 sisters Marilyn Leeds & Sherry (Leeds) Azbell.
He worked at IH. He also worked at Freeman United & Buckheart coal mines until they closed.
Richard, Barbara & family hand-built a beautiful log home on Mule Lake in Northern Minnesota and spent the next 30 years in retirement there where he enjoyed using his 'skidder' to clear the property, along with many other projects.
Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge chapters based in IL & MN. He was an avid hunter & fisherman. He was a leisure pilot that owned & built small planes & he also built a kayak that family used on the lake. He also loved to read & loved to socialize with people. He also got much enjoyment spending time & keeping up with family activities.
Cremation rites were accorded in Florida.
